Wound dressings are where the basics matter most. The wrong dressing on the right wound and you're slowing healing, increasing dressing changes, and raising the infection risk. Six main dressing types
Non-woven island dressing: soft absorbent pad with skin-friendly adhesive border, for wounds with mild to moderate exudate. Transparent film dressing: waterproof, breathable PU film for low-exudate wounds and ongoing wound monitoring without dressing removal. PU / Opsite-style dressing: high-performance polyurethane film for surgical incisions in high-mobility areas. PU Ioban-style incise drape: iodine-impregnated antimicrobial drape for direct application at the surgical incision site. IV non-woven dressing: purpose-built for cannula and catheter fixation. IV transparent dressing: clear film for IV sites with continuous insertion-site visibility.
Quick guidance for buyers
The most common mistake is using non-woven dressings everywhere. They're great for moderately exudative wounds but unnecessary for clean post-operative incisions, where transparent film actually performs better because it allows wound assessment without removing the dressing. Stocking both means your wound care team picks the right tool for the wound rather than working around shortages.
Ioban-style drapes: when they're worth it
Iodine-impregnated incise drapes deliver continuous antimicrobial activity at the incision site throughout the procedure. They're not standard for every case, but for high-risk surgeries (implant procedures, contaminated cases, immunocompromised patients), the SSI-reduction evidence justifies the cost.
Compliance
Every dressing is DRAP registered and produced under ISO 13485:2016. Sterile variants are individually packed and EO sterilized to SAL 10⁻⁶.
