Self-Sealing Sterilization Pouches for Smaller Facilities
Heat sealers are great for high-volume CSSDs. For dental practices, smaller clinics, GP surgeries, and specialty units, the capital cost and maintenance overhead of a heat sealer doesn't make sense, and that's exactly where self-sealing pouches come in. Pre-formed, hand-pressure adhesive closure, ready in seconds.
Three pouch formats
Standard flat pouches for general instrument packaging, paper/film construction. Gusseted pouches are expandable for forceps, scissors, and bulkier instruments. Tyvek pouches for plasma and EO sterilization of heat-sensitive devices.
Why self-seal works
The adhesive closure strip uses a high-tack medical-grade adhesive that creates a permanent, tamper-evident, peel-open bond when firm hand pressure is applied along the full length. The bond meets ISO 11607 requirements for package integrity, equivalent to heat-sealed packs in sterility assurance, just without the equipment.
Sizing for real instruments
We stock eight standard sizes from 90×260mm up to 400×550mm, covering everything from individual dental probes to full forceps and scissor sets. Steam vs. EO: paper/film pouches are validated for steam sterilization; Tyvek/film pouches are required for EO. Most dental and clinical practices only need paper/film.
Documentation
All pouches are DRAP registered. Each pouch carries dual process indicators (steam and EO) and the closure system meets ISO 11607 packaging integrity standards. Under ISO 11607's event-related sterility framework, properly stored pouches maintain sterility until packaging integrity is compromised, with most facilities running a 12-month review cycle as best practice.
Shelf life and storage
Sterilization pouches should be stored in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight and sharp edges that could compromise the film layer or adhesive strip. Properly stored, our pouches carry a minimum 3-year shelf life from manufacture date. The dual indicator design means any staff member can confirm whether a pouch has been through a sterilization cycle at a glance: no specialist interpretation needed.
Who self-seal pouches are right for
Dental practices and GP surgeries processing instruments daily without CSSD infrastructure; specialist clinics (dermatology, ophthalmology, podiatry) with low to moderate sterilization volume; day-surgery and procedure centres that run specific instrument sets rather than general trays; and veterinary practices with the same need for validated sterile packaging. If your volume justifies a heat sealer, reels are usually more cost-effective at scale, but for under 50 pouches per day, self-seal is the practical choice.
