Disposable Shoe Covers: Protection Against Floor-Borne Contamination
Shoe covers are the unglamorous workhorse of infection control. Nobody talks about them, but skip them and you've turned every pair of street shoes into a contamination vector for your operating theatre, cleanroom, or sterile services department.
Two types for different environments
We supply non-woven shoe covers, which are the right choice for operating theatres and cleanrooms. These are breathable with an anti-slip sole treatment for safety on polished hospital floors, and comfortable enough for full-shift wear. We also supply PE (plastic) shoe covers, which are fully waterproof and ideal for visitor entries, wet environments, and high-volume areas where cost-per-piece matters more than long-wear comfort.
When to use which
A common mistake is to bulk-order PE covers for everywhere because they're cheaper. They're a poor fit for the OR: the lack of breathability is uncomfortable for surgical staff, and they don't have the anti-slip sole that hospital safety standards require. PE for visitors, non-woven for clinical staff is the usual split.
Pack sizes that match real consumption
Shoe covers move fast. A busy OT can go through 200 pairs in a single day across staff, students, and visitors. We pack in standard quantities of 100 pieces designed to keep dispensers stocked without constant reordering, and offer carton wholesale pricing for institutional buyers.
Standards
DRAP registered and imported from ISO 13485-certified manufacturers in China. The elastic band sizing accommodates UK shoe sizes 5–12 in one universal fit, which simplifies stocking. Available in blue or green.
Cleanroom and pharmaceutical use
Pharmaceutical manufacturing and ISO-classified cleanrooms have stricter requirements than hospitals: particulate shedding matters as much as contamination control. Our non-woven shoe covers use low-linting polypropylene fabric suitable for ISO Class 7 and 8 cleanroom environments. For Class 5 and 6 environments, we recommend checking your qualification requirements before specifying.
Bulk ordering and stock management
Shoe covers are a high-frequency consumable that benefits from a standing order rather than spot purchasing. We work with hospital stores teams and distributors on replenishment schedules (quarterly or monthly deliveries with fixed pricing) to keep the dispenser stocked and avoid the premium that comes with emergency re-orders.
